TBD

When DFA affiliated Rong music's http://www.residentadvisor.net/dj/leedouglas and ex-!!!/Outhud Justin Vandervolgen first announced their new joint venture TBD on Tim Sweeney's Beats In Space in 2009, they both believe in "creating something new, fresh and not confined by restrictive genre pigeonholing." Three years down the line with an array of edits, remixes and original work being favored by critics and DJs around the world for their quality, originality and sheer sublimity. With labels like Golf Channel, DFA and their own Sounds releasing their productions and artists such as Permanent Vacation, Runaway, 2020 Soundsystem, Populette, Shit Robot courting remixes, they must be doing something right.

Lee Douglas has been at the forefront of New York’s disco/nu-disco/edits scene for the past decade. Since his debut release Our Song in 2004, (aptly hailed as a modern disco masterpiece) he dropped the massive New York Story in 2007, recently making Beatport's Top 10 Nu-Disco tracks of the decade, alongside Noughties names like Lindstrom, Terje and Aeroplane. He's done numerous remixes for artists like Juan Maclean, Coati Mundi, Shit Robot, Findlay Brown... all the while consistently cranking out vital re-edits on imprints like Blackdisco, Editions Disco, Wurst and his own TBD Classics. More recently, Lee finds himself as one half of The Stallions with long time collaborator Lovefingers and of course, with man below.

In Justin V's 13 year dance/disco career, he's mostly been known as a founding member and producer for bands !!! and Outhud as well as remixing for labels like Warp, EMI and Output. One of his many impressive credits is as producer of the !!! record “Me and Guliani down by the schoolyard” which became a UK dance chart hit and (along with LCD Soundsystem) helped to bring the emerging early 2000’s sound of NY punk disco to the rest of the world. DJing in New York became a massive part of his decade, and in 2008 he left the band world, deciding to focus on producing and remixing. The next few years saw the release of originals, his now classic Try to Find Me edit series for Golf Channel, as well the exciting formative years of TBD.

Lee and Justin are imminently embarking on a mini European tour starting this week in Dublin on Thursday and Revive Her at Dalston Superstore in London this Friday.

Ahead of this, the guys recorded a live mix straight from the Brooklyn dancefloor they hold a monthly residency at. In what turned out to be quite a comical interview, they talk about their partnership, the New York music culture and some memories from their worldwide DJing experiences.
